CATALOG DATA
Stockouts and overselling usually get blamed on inventory systems, but in most audits I run, the root cause is upstream: inconsistent SKUs, duplicate listings, or attributes that don't match across sales channels. Fixing the sync settings without fixing the underlying data just moves the error somewhere else. A proper catalog audit checks for duplicate identifiers, mismatched attributes between your source system and each marketplace, and stale mapping rules left over from a previous integration — before touching any sync configuration at all.
MARKETPLACE MANAGEMENT
New Walmart Marketplace sellers tend to focus on listing volume early and performance metrics late — which is backwards. Walmart's algorithm rewards sellers who keep fulfillment speed, cancellation rate, and content quality high from day one, so a smaller, well-managed catalog usually outperforms a large, loosely managed one in the first quarter. The storefronts I've managed that grew fastest all started narrow, proved out fulfillment reliability, then expanded listing count.
SOFTWARE & UX
Most ecommerce operations problems are solvable with existing platforms and a bit of configuration. But there's a point — usually when you're maintaining a dozen workarounds to force a tool to do something it wasn't built for — where custom software becomes cheaper than the ongoing workaround maintenance. Working on MemTrax, a purpose-built clinical assessment tool, reinforced this: some problems are specific enough that no off-the-shelf platform fits, and the build is the fix.
